UK Job Vacancies: The Threat of Underemployment

These are very challenging times. Yes, countries are recovering from the aftereffects of recession and yes, there are more and more UK job vacancies available in the UK with the private sector holding up its end of the bargain of creating new jobs. While there are a myriad of positions still unfilled and even if they’re growing every day, they’re not getting filled as quickly and this is because people that make up the pool of the unemployed don’t have the right skills and knowledge for that specific job opening. In the news, even graduates of information technology find it quite a challenge to find a job too.

The world is witnessing a prevalent use of technology for various activities. Studies conducted by various recruitment agencies have found that UK job vacancies related to the IT field have increased to about almost 80 people. It’s quite encouraging to this number, but the problem arises when graduates of IT are being overlooked almost 30% of the time. With the new jobs from private sectors, IT graduates might be going for roles that aren’t really in their field of study. Many companies talk about being open to hire fresh talent but it’s a bit difficult for them to forgo applicants with experience.

The Higher Education Careers Services Unit has done research on this trend and they came up with details showing that IT graduates being unemployed has risen to 16.3%, that’s a big different from 13.7 the previous year. In the hope of getting UK job vacancies filled with the right people, it’s the hope that the UK treads carefully in getting people to fill vacancies. With the upcoming talent, there are better chances for the economy to recover from recession.  Companies and firms have to do their part in getting the most qualified people in vacancies.
