UK supermarket giant has again revealed staggering trading results, with a 9.3% rise in net profit up to fiscal year end Feb 2010. Encouragingly, a large proportion of this profit will be re-invested back into the UK as the retailer reveals plans to create 9,000 British jobs this year.
Expansion will be in the firms core business, food retailing. However, Tesco is now emerging as a serious non-food giant. Sales of household electrical including microwaves, DVD players and televisions are all up. So too are toy sales, thanks in part to the collapse of Woolworths in 2009.
The bulk of the jobs vacancies will be for store operatives of various levels, but Tesco is also seeking to employ specialist sales people, responsible for selling and advising on small electrical, home technology (inc broadband and home IT). Jobs will be created nationwide.
