Sainsbury’s, the UK’s second largest retailer, is to consult with members of the public this week as it seeks approval for a new 50,000 sq ft supermarket in Sheffield. The retailer wants to build the new store in Wadsley Bridge on an area of derelict land. Anyone interested in attending the consultation to view the plans should visit the Niagara Sports and Social Club. Plans can be viewed from 16th July (from 12 mid day until 7pm) and 17th July from 10am to 2pm.
This will be Sainsbury’s first store in north Sheffield and the retailer believes it will provide a welcome boost for local residents. The plans include extensive modernisation of a factory on the site which will help retain the 350 manufacturing jobs in the area. As the proposal is for a major new store Sainsbury’s expects to create up to 400 new retail jobs in the area. The range of vacancies on offer will be varied, ranging from customer facing retail staff to bakers, cafe staff, warehousing operatives and drivers.
