Pace of Employment Growth remains Slow but Steady

by admin on July 12, 2010

According to figures provided by the Recruitment and Employment Confederation the total number of new employee appointments grew in June 2010. This growth is on the back of previous growth throughout the year. Engineering and construction appear to be the industries recruiting the highest numbers of staff currently. Despite the growth figures, experts remain cautious as the figures from June highlight that growth is slowing. This slow growth, coupled with government plans to reduce the public sector workforce numbers means that there could shortly be a high rise in the number of people available for full time work but unable to find a suitable position.

The Government is hoping that council jobs lost in the public sector will be generated by the private sector. However, the chances of this happening on such a large scale remain unclear. Youth unemployment is also continuing to rise and remains one of the biggest challenges faced by the new coalition government.
