Manage Your Social Media Profile when Job Hunting

by admin on April 29, 2010

The popularity of social media sites like Facebook and Twitter is increasing year after year, with many of us creating profiles packed full of photos, links, discussions and opinions. Whilst social networking sites are a great way of staying in touch with friends and family you need to remember that they can also be accessed by those scouting for information on you. This is particularly true if you are looking for a job vacancy right now. Employers are increasingly turning to social networking sites like Facebook to see what their candidates are really like! And if your profile is full of drunken antics, strong political opinions, obscenities and more you are not going to come across as very professional. By all means have a social networking site. After all, it shows you are in touch with reality. But if you are looking for work you need to make sure your online profile is suitable. Look professional, polite and good natured at all times. Failing this ensure you block your profile so that only your friends can access it!
