After years of planning, John Lewis is almost ready to open the doors on its latest “at home” store in Croydon. Not only is this a welcome addition to the town in terms of a better shopping experience but it has also boosted employment in the area, with around 200 new jobs being created.
The majority of the job vacancies with John Lewis
were customer facing retail positions. However, a number of “behind the scenes” positions in warehousing, stock control and logistics have also been filled. The recruitment process started in April 2010 when the retailer began a local campaign to hire a range of full and part time staff.
Further expansion plans are on the cards for John Lewis in the south of England. Two more branches of the “at home” stores are set to open in the latter part of 2010, in Tunbridge Wells and Swindon. When both stores are fully operational John Lewis report that a total of around 720 new jobs will have been created in its “at home” stores.
