A review is reportedly underway into the performance of three Lincolnshire based Marks and Spencer stores. The stores in Grantham, Skegness and Scunthorpe have apparently seen repeated falls in sales over recent years which means that the retailer no longer sees them as commercially viable.
If M&S decides to closes the stores it will affect around 110 jobs. However, they are being urged by the local community to keep the stores open, not just to save the jobs at Marks and Spencers but to also protect the employment of other retail outlets and restaurants located within these three towns.
Local retailers believe that a big name like Marks and Spencer draws people to the town centres. If the stores close they feel people will desert the local high street in favour of bigger cities and retail parks.
